What is the difference between weather and climate? A basic definition is weather describes the observed atmospheric conditions at a point in time, while climate is the average of the recorded atmospheric conditions over time. In other words, climate is what you expect, weather is what you get. This course will provide an in-depth, yet simple to understand overview of weather and climate. It will cover the basics of atmospheric science: how the sun, oceans, and even the orientation of the Earth drive weather; principles of weather forecasting and weather measurements; and even a session on space weather. Impacts of weather on sectors such as agriculture, aviation, and other areas will be discussed, as well as weather safety and preparation. Sessions on climate will describe longer-range phenomena, from months to years; climatologies of the area; and an overview on climate change. REGISTER
