The ABCs of Central Italy:
Adventure, Birding, and Cuisine

April 29 – May 9, 2025
Leader: Paul Pisano

You are invited to join Nature Forward to experience Italy on a trip full of beauty, birds, and great food.

When one thinks of traveling to Italy, the images most likely to come to mind are the remarkable art and architecture of such unique cities as Venice, Rome and Florence. Or perhaps the beauty of the Amalfi Coast, with delicious food a close second. At best, a day trip to look for birds might work its way into an itinerary, but a full nature tour is probably not at the top of the Italian travel list. Should you join us on this tour, we aim to change that perspective of this beautiful country – to see it as a nature destination too, on par with other Mediterranean countries. Oh, and still with delicious food.

You are cordially invited to join us on this exceptional 10-day tour focused on wildlife, birding, food and winethroughout Central Italy. The tour takes place within the boundaries of Lazio, the region surrounding Rome, and in this relatively small area you will have the opportunity to discover the rich biodiversity and breathtaking landscapesof Italy. From national parks to enchanted islands, you’ll be immersed in unspoiled nature and millennia-old history.

Please see below for our full itinerary and registration form for the trip.

We hope you’ll join us for an unforgettable adventure!

Dear friends:

The idea of this tour came to me last fall when I was living in Naples to study Italian. It was my seventh time in the country, and I had the opportunity to go beyond the fantastic museums and glorious churches, and to explore the country beyond the key sights and cities. On a previous visit I had met Valerio Russo of Kayla Nature (K’ Nature), and it was over espressos in Vomero, Naples, where we got reacquainted and this tour took shape. K’ Nature is a company of zoologists with years of experience in both scientific research and ecotourism. Their knowledge of the areas we’ll be visiting on this tour – Abruzzo, the Latium coastal areas, Tuscia region and the island of Ventotene – is extensive, covering all aspects of nature, not just birds.

While the focus will be on nature, there will be several opportunities to enjoy the culture of the region, to learn about its history and the people, such as the ancient Etruscan civilization and the re-emerging lentil farming on Ventotene. All while enjoying wonderful meals, and even participating in a cooking lesson and wine tasting experience.

I’m excited that Nature Forward and K’ Nature have partnered to provide an extraordinary adventure in April and May, 2025.

I hope this invitation has spurred your desire to see Italy from a completely new perspective, and I look forward to sharing this sensational experience.

Sincerely,

Paul Pisano
