Andrea began teaching in 1993 and has worked in many different settings, including elementary school classrooms and co-operative schools. Her educational philosophy centers around hands-on experiences, nature-based, emergent curriculum with a focus on social-emotional development. Her most recent interest in natural history is around flower identification and teaching children to recognize patterns in flower families. She loves spending time with children in and around Woodend as they roll logs, make discoveries, and become expert naturalists. Andrea was born in Canada but currently lives in Takoma Park with her wife. They have two adult daughters who are also teachers, and a dog, Coleman. In her free time, she enjoys foraging, gardening, and beekeeping.
