Before October 30: Tell our Fairfax County Planning Commission to Strengthen Data Center Regulations!
Your voice has power! Please tell our Fairfax County Planning Commissioners to protect our communities from data center impacts.
The Planning Commission held two important public hearings on October 15 and 16 – both outcomes could dictate county guidelines on data center development for years to come. Comments for the Policy Plan are still open!
Oct 15: Policy Plan public hearing

UPDATE: The Planning Commission deferred their decision on October 16 to November 12. They will be discussing community feedback at their Policy Plan Committee meeting on October 30. Please submit comments ASAP before then so that your feedback can be considered in that discussion.
The Board of Supervisors is trying to weaken county data center guidance in the County’s Policy Plan, a strategic document by which many significant county development decisions are made. While staff had recommended strong data center guardrails in the draft of this plan earlier this year, the Board of Supervisors specifically requested changes that reduced guardrails for data center development. The last comprehensive update of this plan was 30 years ago – we must seize the day to make positive changes to this development guidance. In this first public hearing with the Planning Commission, please tell our decision makers to put people over profit!
Oct 16: Substation Zoning Ordinance Amendment public hearing

UPDATE: The Planning Commission deferred their decision on October 16 to October 22. We’ll update this page as we learn more.
With data centers’ rapid expansion comes the need for large electrical substations. In Fairfax County, we have even seen these massive substations proposed to be built next to neighborhoods, such as a neighborhood near Plaza 500. This week, the Planning Commission will be considering stronger rules for where substations can be built. We need to tell them to protect our homes by not building substations beside them.
Send a quick message asking for greater protections from data centers & substations
Fairfax County’s Policy Plan is a guidance document to be used for decades to come and a new Substation zoning ordinance will be law – we want both to be as strong as possible in protecting the residents of Fairfax County.

Changing the introduction with 1-2 sentences about why you care about these issues (or other personal customizations) will help strengthen your comments.
