Private Tours at
Woodend Nature Sanctuary

Interested in a private tour of Woodend?

Woodend Private Tours are available to small groups of adults (15+ people) interested in learning from a knowledgeable naturalist about the history, ecology, and management strategies of Woodend Nature Sanctuary. We offer three primary themes for our tours: Notable Trees, Natural Habitats, and Native Plant Gardens. We can also adapt these core themes to meet your group’s specific interests.

Some examples of groups that have enjoyed Private Tours include corporate teams, local environmental organizations, senior living communities, and history and gardening clubs. Tours last 1.5 hours with a fee of $150 for groups of up to 15 people. Each additional person is $10.

Notable Trees Tour

The forest and lawns of Woodend are perfect places to learn more about both native and introduced trees. You’ll learn to master key identification strategies for 20 species, and visit three county “champion” trees. You’ll also discover the wildlife habitat and ecosystem services that trees provide in our urban region.

Natural Habitats Tour

Boasting 27 acres of forest, five acres of wildflower meadows, and a newly-restored small stream, Woodend is an oasis of natural habitats in our rapidly urbanizing region. Learn about the bees and butterflies that visit our meadows, the frogs and salamanders that breed in our stream, and the many bird species that thrive at our sanctuary.

Native Plant Garden Tour

Woodend was once a lavish estate with impressive formal gardens. Nature Forward has maintained the beauty of that cultural landscape while transitioning to native plant gardens that support wildlife and reduce stormwater pollution. This is a great place for you to pick up tips for tending your own conservation landscape.

For smaller groups or individuals, we offer regularly scheduled tours of Woodend throughout the year. These tours are $12 for members and $16 for non-members. For more information, please visit our
